Cabalié Cuvée Vieilles Vignes (magnum) 2019

Pays d'Oc IGP

Cabalié is one of our best loved ‘BIG reds’, and this special Vieilles Vignes cuvée packs an even bigger punch. Seriously old-vine Carignan gives a boost of inky dark fruit and spice to soft, red berry Grenache in this stonkingly rich, velvety red.

Parker-rated winemaker Hervé Sabardeil has been making our standard Cabalié since 2001, so in 2011 he decided to craft a special super cuvée to mark the decade. Customers were so enthusiastic he continued with it. He sources grapes from the same area; the poor slate soils of the Roussillon, where winemaking dates back to the 2nd century BC. The fruit is from vines 60 to 100 years old, so yields are minute (about 20 hectolitres per hectare – half of a Grand Cru claret), which really adds to the power and intensity of the wine. Grenache with a large portion of spicy, black fruit Carignan, this weighty red makes an excellent ‘big brother’ to the original. Not to be taken lightly, it’s ideal with roast meats, rich stew or hard cheese.

" Absolute stand out wine. Juicy sweet berry initial taste with a smooth body. Very drinkable" 5-Star Online Review
