Chat with Vinny
Superb, handcrafted Chassagne from the Bouard-Bonnefoy family. Pinot Noir excels on the appellation’s fine soils, particularly at this fourth generation estate. Cherished at every step and still a mere babe, this is a glorious, berry scented red.
Tasting notes
Fresh, with pure, up front fruit and creamy spice tones
Aroma
Plenty of red fruit with a touch of sweet spice
More information
Our Fine Wine Team were thoroughly impressed by the quality of this wine. After tasting a long line up of more familiar names, Angus McLean said “it stood out head and shoulders in terms of quality and price”. The winery is very small, with everything done by hand (including the labelling) and with only 1.6 hectares of Pinot Noir in Chassagne and 8 hectares in total. As you can imagine, that area – less than the size of two football pitches, and with vines aged between 40 and 60 years old – only produces 200 or so cases a year. But what is lacking in volume is made up with quality, as this silky Pinot Noir with sweet red fruit will attest. It’s already drinking beautifully – with duck pâté, venison casserole or a wild mushroom risotto.
