Brunus Montsant 2014

Montsant DO

Triple 90+ point red from Priorat’s neighbour, Montsant. Highly experienced French winemaker Edouard Chevalier uses grapes from ancient, high grown vines to gain superb intensity in the dark berry and spice notes. A powerful, very well balanced red.

The Montsant region “surrounds Priorat like a bangle round a wrist” (Decanter). It has lain in the shadow of its neighbour for years, but today, dedicated producers like Ramón Raventós – owner of this cellar – are working hard to change that. And the wines are making headlines. This red has scored 90+ points since its launch in 2010. Ramón’s family have been winemakers in Spain’s Catalunya for 450 years and in Montsant since 2003. He took over an old co-op, revamped its cellars and revitalised its ancient vineyards – on average 60 years old. They produce tiny yields of very concentrated fruit. Bordeaux trained Edouard Chevalier has taken Cariñena and Garnacha from the top vineyards, ageing the wine in oak to produce this fine, complex red.
