This luxuriously rich red combines Cabernet, the ‘King of Bordeaux’, with Malbec, Argentina’s speciality grape. The result is a New World masterpiece – and shows just what can happen when two great winemaking producers join forces. The wine is a collaboration between Nicolás Catena, whose family have been creating wines in Mendoza for three generations, and Domaines Barons de Rothschild, whose Château Lafite Rothschild is regarded as Bordeaux’s “First Growth of First Growths” (Clive Coates MW). Matured in 60% new oak for 18 months, this powerful red is given structure and depth from premium Cabernet, while Malbec brings layers of supple red fruit. Be sure to decant two hours before serving, and enjoy with steak, garlic mushrooms or lamb.
