Federico Benegas lives and breathes wine. From an early age he was helping his father at the family estate, then went on to train at some of Argentina’s top wineries. In 2000 he went out on his own, buying a winery and carefully restoring it, as well as the family’s 40 hectares of vineyard. His great grandfather had bought the original vines from France, and the Cabernet Franc, on its pre-phylloxera rootstock (so rare), dates back to 1889, the Cabernet Sauvignon from 1935 and Merlot from 1956. The vineyards lie at 850 metres altitude, so are mountain cooled, with stony gravelly soil - all pointers to superb quality wines. This velvety, complex red spent 18 months ageing in new French oak which lends it a rich wrap of toasty vanilla spice.

"Such an exciting and unique wine – ancient vines, premium fruit, long ageing in new oak. Gorgeous" Beth Willard
