For many, Rioja reaches its pinnacle of excellence in a Gran Reserva. Only crafted in the very best vintages, they require by law a minimum of two years’ oak aging prior to at least three years in bottle. Only miniscule amounts are made from the oldest vines in the finest vineyards. And you’ll struggle to find a more meticulously crafted example than this, from father and son team Julián and Javier Murúa. Ripe, complex and multi layered, the liveliness of this remarkable Rioja belies its 9 years' maturity. From your first sip, you’ll love this wine’s powerful damson and berry fruit, earthy truffle and nutmeg complexity, and lingering finish. Be sure to decant, then enjoy with roast lamb, game dishes like rabbit or wild mushroom risotto.
