Feteasca Neagra is Romania’s oldest grape variety and something of a speciality for Lorena Deaconu and her team. They’re spearheading Romania’s blossoming wine scene, and their accessible, fruit laden wines are much sought after throughout the country, and at the court of King Michael of Romania until his recent death. They’re in great demand in the UK too, and Black Silk is the latest in a line of exclusives that we’ve sourced from Lorena’s cellars. It’s from mountainous Muntenia in Romania’s southeast. Once most famous for gothic castles and associated folklore, the region is gaining worldwide acclaim for tasty wines like this. Brimming with soft plummy fruit, it’s lovely on its own, or with richly sauced pasta, buffalo wings or pizza.
