Spain’s Winery of the Year 2015, Barbadillo works its magic in the very south of Spain. Their winemaker Montse Molina is a passionate champion of the region’s table wines. Blending Merlot and Shiraz with Rioja’s Tempranillo, it’s a joyful fruity red.

Southern Spain may be the stronghold of sherry, but it's also proving its worth with deliciously fruity table wines. Montse Molina, winemaker at the family owned Barbadillo, is largely responsible, with Golds to show for it. Indeed, this red sold locally has won two! Montse’s wines are terrific value – so much flavour and balance. And, unlike the magnificent traditional sherries the family also makes, she likes to break the rules and use international grapes. Here Montse adds juicy Merlot and spicy Shiraz to the smooth and berry filled Spanish star Tempranillo. Picking at night and cool fermenting, she’s excelled at capturing all the delicious fruit. A charming red for sipping solo, at a barbecue, with lighter vegetarian dishes or chicken.
