Impressive Tuscan red with 97 points and ‘second-best red of Italy’ from Luca Maroni, and 92 from James Suckling. It’s from a renowned Brunello estate and artfully combines Sangiovese’s dense cherry and almond tang with supple ripe plum Merlot fruit.
"Smoky character, cherries, red plums and white chocolate. Firm and polished tannins, a deep finish"
James Suckling 92 Points
Carlo Vittori was a wine consultant across Italy for many decades. Yet it was only in the 1980s that he decided to buy a plot of land for himself. This was in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, to the south, near the famous Abbey of Sant’Antimo and the village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Few people at the time were growing grapes there. That has all changed now, of course, and the price of grapes is astronomical. Today Carlo’s daughter Valeria Vittori is winemaker, having graduated from university in Florence. Using grapes from the estate’s 40 hectares of vines, this red is vinified with the gentlest touch and sings with intense creamy cherry and plum fruit with a lingering spice finish. This Tuscan red is a remarkably good buy.

Laithwaite's began in 1969, when geography student Tony Laithwaite took a job washing bottles in Bordeaux ...
and fell in love with wine and the people who make it. When he borrowed a van to share their delicious wines with
friends and neighbours at home, things went so well that hundreds of little wineries all around the world were soon
queuing to take part. Today we're the UK's No.1 home-delivery wine merchant, with over 1,500 wines to choose from
including red, white, rosé, Champagne, Prosecco, spirits ... you name it. Tony's still at it - and now really good
at washing bottles. Read more
