Denbies English Vineyard is situated in Dorking, in the heart of the Surrey Hills. A beautiful estate boasting 100 hectares of immaculately tended vineyards, it takes its name from John Denby, a farmer who owned the property in the 18th century. Over the years it has belonged to several notable personages and in 1851 was honoured by a visit from Prince Albert. Today Denbies belongs to Adrian and Gillian White, who have renovated the estate and, after discovering that vines had been grown nearby in 100 AD, began planting vines on their south facing, chalky hillsides. They now have the largest single vineyard area in the UK! Perfect for summer sipping, Ashcombe Hill is delicious with grilled white fish or seared scallops with lime and ginger.
