For lovers of Argentinian Malbec we have a delicious new find. It's from a family bodega in the San Juan region. Vines there lie at 700 metres yet the climate is still warm, producing silky, supple, ripeness in this spicy berry-filled, oaked red.
"Delicious rich red with a spicy edge, which I personally love but don't often get"
Online Review For the 2018 vintage
Argentina’s Malbec is one of the trendiest wines on the planet. Most comes from Mendoza, but northwest lies the San Juan region. With vineyards at c. 700 metres and clear skies, it provides ideal conditions for vines. No wonder its wines are so good, but without much of a marketing budget, they remain a bit of a secret. Here you'll find Bodegas Antigua, founded in 1990 by Don Luis Victor Chirino. A builder by trade and huge wine enthusiast, he bought a winery and land for vines. His HQ is a historic building and local landmark – erected in 1918 and one of the first in San Juan to be earthquake proof! After much restoration it’s been transformed into a magnificent cellar. This is a supple, oaked Malbec, tasty solo and with grilled meats.
