The impressive second wine of Château Belair-Monange, owned and operated by Bordeaux’s legendary Moueix family – the winemakers behind Bordeaux’s most expensive red: Pétrus.Comprising the old estates of Château Magdelaine and Château Belair, this property shares its terroir with the hallowed likes of Châteaux Ausone and Canon The Moueix family bought the estate in 2007 and have transformed it into one of Saint Emilions smartest reds, overhauling vineyard management and work in the wineryThe 2014 is heavily Merlot dominant – characteristic of Saint Emilions for 2014 – with 90% Merlot augmented by just 10% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, forward red and black berries, with deeper, more indulgent plum character on the nose. Spices begin to appear on the palate; tobacco and cedarwood complimenting the raspberry and blackcurrant character. Nicely structured without being at all austere.
