Rich, Gold medal Rioja Reserva from our head winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua’s boutique winery. 2010 was an excellent vintage. Using Tempranillo from high altitude, 40 to 80 year old vines, the wine has elegance, intense fruit and structure. Real class.

The elegance and intensity of this wine come from the hand picked Tempranillo grapes that are grown at 700 metres altitude on old vines. The vineyards chill down at night, even in summer, thereby lengthening the ripening period and enhancing aromatics and depth of flavour. Add in the expertise and classic training of Jean-Marc Sauboua and Hector Gomez, both winemakers of impressive experience, and it’s no surprise Altos wines have won many top awards. For this fine 2010 they blended the best cuvées of the vintage to achieve a perfect balance of fruit and spice, then aged the wine for 2 years in 80% French, 20% US oak, one third of which was new. With its dark cherry and plum flavours and toasty oak, the Reserva is superb with game or lamb.
