Lusco Albariño 2019

Rias Baixas DO

From a cellar described by Decanter as "one of the top wineries in Rías Baixas”, this is an exciting new Albariño for our list. It has classic notes of ripe stone fruit, pear with a floral note and an incisive whip of mineral freshness to balance.

Albariño has become a firm favourite for white wine drinkers, who love the dazzling freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, but want a bit more peachy roundness. "Spain's best white by miles" said critic Matthew Jukes. You get all that character and a lot more with Pazos de Lusco. It's from the Rías Baixas region of Galicia in NW Spain and a 16th century estate. It is surrounded by its five hectares of high trellised, south facing vines, which ripen well in the full face of the sunshine, tempered by cooling breezes. In fact it's a top spot for this grape and, although not organically certified, the grapes only ever need natural treatments. Even the yeast used for fermentation is from the grape skins. With a Gold medal reputation this is a top find.

"Classy Albariño - that wonderful balance of creamy fruit and mineral freshness. A great wine" Beth Willard
