The Luis Felipe Edwards estate has been named Chile’s ‘Winery of the Year’ four times now. And for good reason! 15+ years ago, the family started investing in higher, cooler sites for premium grape growing. Some of these vineyards are so steep and inaccessible they are more easily reached on horseback than by a four wheel drive, hence the name Acaballo, ‘by horse’. Both Shiraz and Carmenère respond well to these conditions and an aspect that affords maximum sunshine late into the evening. Ageing the wine in French and US oak, winemaker Nicolas Bizzarri has achieved that most sought after balance of juicy fruit, exotic oak spice and silken tannins, with cooler climate freshness. Decant and serve with grilled red meats or rich pasta dishes.
