The tiny appellation of Pomerol is home to perhaps the greatest Merlot in the world, and some of the finest, most sought after Bordeaux of all. None more so than the wines made by the Moueix family, responsible for legendary Château Pétrus as well as La Fleur Pétrus, its impeccable sister property. 2017 saw a truly classic Bordeaux vintage in which, as Jeb Dunnuck put it “some brilliant wines were made”. With remarkably consistent scores of 95-96 from almost every wine critic, this is unquestionably one of them. Hand-harvested grapes, 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, are long-aged in 50% new oak barriques to produce one of the most elegant and refined of all Pomerols. Particularly in a vintage of 2017’s finesse and aromatic charm.
