More information
Superb second wine from this great Saint Estèphe estate, showing much of the class of Cos, the wine is already approachable and well priced. Like many top Bordeaux châteaux, Cos d’Estournel uses grapes from younger vines to make a second wine, one that has many of the characteristics of the Grand Vin, but is ready to drink sooner. Les Pagodes takes its name from the ornate building in which the wines are made, which resembles an oriental pagoda. Critic Neal Martin awarded the 2017 vintage 90-92 points, saying: “A very clean and pure bouquet with black cherries, boysenberry jam and Indian ink”. Decanter called it “enjoyable right off the bat”. This year 60% of the grapes went into Pagodes, so it's particularly high quality, with 30% new oak.
