Vougeraie is the superb Boisset family estate. In 1961 Jean-Claude Boisset purchased Gevrey’s Les Evocelles, and since then they’ve added vineyards across 36 appellations, covering 42 hectares of premium land. They brought the vineyards together in one estate in 1999 to make Domaine de la Vougeraie. Large for Burgundy, but there’s no compromise in quality. Every plot is managed organically and biodynamically for a purer expression of the vines’ terroir. Les Marconnets is a splendidly situated vineyard on the Beaune side of the steep hill, with iron-rich, pebble and sandy soils. These suit Vougeraie’s old vines that produce tiny yields (25hl/ha). Ageing in French oak lends a spice edge to this fine red. Enjoy with duck or mushroom dishes.
