From the same team as renowned Calon Ségur, this is a glorious, fruit-laden Saint Estèphe and from a property that regularly performs above its Cru Bourgeois status. Typically for the appellation, it has firm tannins, so will age magnificently.

Formerly known as Capbern Gasqueton, this Cru Bourgeois Saint Estèphe estate, along with 3ème Cru Classé Calon Ségur, was in the Gasqueton family for 10 generations. In 2012, it was sold and quality has stepped even higher. It lies in one of the finest parts of the appellation, between Phelan Ségur and Meyney, and every aspect is given Grand Cru care. Hand picking of the 41 hectares of vines, with ageing in premium oak barriques, two thirds new, all add up to exceptional quality. This vintage has gathered many top scores from critics worldwide, with James Suckling singling out the northern Medoc – and wines of Saint-Estèphe in particular – as the best of the vintage. Still youthful, yet already very appealing, it’ll benefit from decanting.
