Viña Marichalar Reserva 2013

Rioja DOCa

Rare chance to enjoy a Reserva from the superb Rioja Alta and at a down to earth price. It’s from an estate recently bought by the talented young brothers David and Victor Manzanos. Two years in oak have lent rich spice to the layers of berry fruit.

If you’re a fan of Rioja, you’re likely to be well acquainted with the superb wines of the Manzanos brothers, David and Victor. Our Buyer Beth is an admirer and a good friend, so was quick to respond when they tipped her off that they’d bought an exciting new bodega in the Alta, the holy grail for those who like the most elegant of Riojas. The brothers wanted to clear the cellars of its precious old stocks of oak matured wines, to make room for new wines they were making there. First to be asked, Beth got pick of the wines, and all at impressively low prices. With two years in oak and one in bottle, this Reserva is just beginning to show its talent. Dense raspberry fruit layered with cedar and spice. Delicious now and will reward cellaring.

"A wine with double talents – it’s delicious now, but will improve with cellaring, if you can resist" Beth Willard
