We've been buying from the northern Rhône's renowned Cave de Tain for 50 years now, a cellar described by critic, Jeb Dunnuck, as "one of the finest co-ops in the world." Most of their wines are from the top appellations Hermitage, Crozes, Cornas and the like, with £60 per bottle price tags to go with it. The secret white grape behind all those famous name villages is the surprisingly little-known Marsanne that can produce wines with sublime tropical fruit, lemon and blossom notes with a mineral edge. You'll find all that and more in the luscious, mouthfilling Chemin du Belvédère. The grapes were taken from four parcels in the Hermitage vicinity, with one from with the prestigious appellation. Chill gently – it's a star with roast chicken.

"Using purely Marsanne, the white grape of prized Hermitage Blanc, this is an exciting white" Mark Hoddy
