Finca La Olma Verdejo 2019

Rueda DO

Verdejo is the most widely drunk grape variety in Spain. It's the Spanish answer to Sauvignon Blanc: zesty and limey, with a tropical touch. Like this zingy 2019, full of fresh flavour, thanks to seriously high-altitude grapes, all picked at night.

Formed in 2010, Diez Siglos is a collective of around 70 small growers who work together to continue the winemaking traditions of Rueda. They use their combined expertise, their best vineyards and a new modern winery to produce great wines typical of the region. Like this gorgeous Verdejo, made by the award-winning winemaker Sandra Martín Chivite. The grapes for this wine come from a single vineyard high on the Castillian Meseta at altitudes over 700m. Here the soil is dominated by stones (a bit like Chateauneuf) which help regulate the soil temperature. This combined with the high altitudes, results in a wine that's very ripe but also super fresh. Perfect for fans of Sauvignon, it's full of bright fruit. Equally good solo or with seafood.

"A great white. Clean and bright, with well-balanced acidity, pleasing richness and delicious weight" Beth Willard
