Noël Bougrier is a maker of fine Loire wines, heading up the team at his family estate since 1990. This bright, fresh white uses pure Chenin Blanc, one of the top grapes of the region, lees aged to lend creamy weight to intense, candied lemon fruit.
"Glorious vintage conditions have ensured wonderfully ripe fruit and finesse. A great Chenin"
Jehan Sacaze Buyer for the Loire
The 2018 vintage in the Loire is being hailed as the vintage of a lifetime. It has put a big smile on the faces of winemakers and growers alike – having rewarded both in outstanding quality and reasonable quantity. Noël Bougrier, at his family estate, was certainly delighted, and the Chenin Blanc for this wine is outstanding. The grapes were taken from around the village of Saint Georges sur Cher, the Cher being a small tributary of the Loire. Lovely ripeness and intensity of candied citrus fruit, with a creamy roundness from a few months’ lees ageing. This wine is a joy to drink on its own and, golden hued, it’s a real glass of sunshine. It’ll make a fine match too with creamy chicken, pan-fried salmon or lightly spiced noodle stir-fry.
