More information
Even a top property in Ribera del Duero sometimes needs to sell off their flagship wine at a ridiculously low price. 2016 gave the estate (that we're absolutely not allowed to name) good sized yields, unusual here, but the appellation sets limits, hence the declassification of this wine to Vino Tinto. That takes nothing away from the superb quality of this wine, the grapes for which come from vines, over 100 years old and situated at over 750 metres altitude. You can imagine it gets cold up there at night; even day time temperatures aren't that high, but the sunshine is clear and ripens the grapes to perfection. Pure Tempranillo, fermented in French and American oak, then matured in cask for 24 months, this is a long, complex red.
