Chat with Vinny
Jurançon is one of the little-known star appellations of SW France, its white wines a truly authentic taste of the region’s quirky Manseng grape. We discovered this small domaine and loved the wine. It’s run by two 74+ year old sisters, Anne-Marie and Christiane Barrère, assisted by their more ancient mother, Madame, in the kitchen garden! It’s the sort of wine you might never try without an introduction, and it wins awards.
The wine
This is their single vineyard white, using purely the local superstar grape Gros Manseng. Meticulously tended and gently fermented, no oak, it produces a characterful white with lush, creamy peach, blossom and bonbons aromas. Flavours of apricot, quince and peach again, with lovely weight and roundness, underscored by a whip of mineral freshness. This is a dream of a white, with no need for ageing. That's done in the cellar for you.
Come and see it for yourself
The Barrère ladies are firmly French speakers, but if you'd like to visit this pretty, yet modest domaine, we will put you in touch with Lionel Osmin, who introduced the wine to us and is very passionate about it.
