In 1989, inspired by a huge passion for Puglia, its land and its growers, the great Angelo Maci set up the Cantine Due Palme cooperative. From very small beginnings, it has grown and has won top awards – three times ‘Best Winemaker of Puglia’, four times ‘Best Italian cellar’ most recently in 2022, plus a Lifetime Achievement award for Angelo himself. He is an inspiration … his face is on billboards … a champion of the people and its great winemaking traditions. Yet Angelo and his team are also pioneers, and leaders in sustainability too. Angelo still knows and values every grower. Their flagship red, reserved for these growers and honorary ‘grower’ partners, is a magnificent, multi-award Riserva.
The wine
The Selvarossa dei Confratelli Riserva is a masterpiece of intense red fruit, woven with rich spice. Silky, long – a red whose flavours soar like the sound of an orchestra in full ‘song’. The very best parcels of Negroamaro (growers vie for their grapes to be included) are used each year, a third of them air-dried for added concentration, plus a small portion of the perfumed Malvasia Nera. Aged for nine months in French oak barriques and longer in bottle before release, it’s layered with intense cherry compote, fig, vanilla and oak spice. What Angelo calls his "wine of meditation … and conversation."

We will update our vintage information regularly to let you know what's drinking well now and what will continue to improve. These wines are best opened and decanted. They will become more complex with further cellaring, but are still very pleasurable to drink.
