Scaling new heights in Argentina

Finest Malbec from Argentina’s grand Gualtallary region and Bordeaux's multi-trophy-winning Hervé Fabre

About the winery

Hervé Fabre first ventured to Argentina from Bordeaux in the late 1980s … and fell in love with the country and its old Malbec vineyards. He became a pioneer of Argentina’s Malbec and has since blazed a trail. Firstly, with his wines from his superb Mendoza cellar, then in Patagonia. He’s won many Trophies. Now he’s making his mark in the Uco Valley’s ‘Grand Cru’ Gualtallary region, so high up you can almost touch the snowy-topped Andes.

The wine

Hervé’s Gualtallary vineyards lie at 1,400 metres altitude – Ben Nevis sort of height. There sunshine is extremely pure, UV is stronger and the diurnal temperature range is dramatic. So, grapes ripen slowly, develop great depth, richness and power, plus tannins for colour and ageability, while lower alcohol and freshness are retained. Vines love it and we love the wine! Superb vibrant cherry notes, layered with rose petal, violets, slate and black pepper, with beautifully integrated oak.

Experience it for yourself

Come visit the winery in Lujan de Cuyo, only 40 minutes from Mendoza airport. Taste the wines and experience Fabre Montmayou in person. Tours by appointment only, please call or email the winery to make a reservation. If you wish to experience Gualtallary itself (there is no winery there), it is a long drive or short flight away. Best to check at the winery.

Vintage information

We will update our vintage information regularly to let you know what's drinking well now and what would be better kept. Wines marked as 'young' are best opened early and decanted. They will become more complex with further cellaring, but are still very pleasurable to drink.
