Paolo’s best single-vineyard wine - Il Corto – 3rd Best Wine in Italy

Paolo’s Il Corto wine often scores high points from the world’s top wine critics and publications. Last year the 2017 was awarded a monumental 96 points and was named ‘3rd Best Wine of Italy’ by Italy’s renowned Luca Maroni. That is a huge achievement. Then, this year, the 2018 Il Corto gained the same terrific 96-point score.

All the grapes - Sangiovese and Cabernet - are from their best Il Corto vineyard, set on a steep, sunny slope. The vines are old, the care taken infinite. Meticulous winemaking, ageing in fine French oak … it all adds up to an amazing wine that is reserved for Vineyard Partners of Fattoria di Basciano at just £16 a bottle. The award-winning 2018 vintage is rich and weighty, with intense, ripe black cherry and spicy mocha notes, but with a firm framework of tannins for ageing, if you wish to.
