An excellent gathering ...

About 50 of us Confrères and friends got together in April in a winery not in Bordeaux but just off the M40.

It's very handy that our Henry has planted vines in England and built a winery to make sparkling wine. It's very good, what he and Kaye make, and I saw a lot of Confrères taking away boxes of their latest.

What started as a tasting turned, as usual, into a party as people kept bringing in stuff from Henry's pizza oven. It was very hard for me to get everyone's attention. Anyway I tried. We had wines from our other cellars: Le Chai au Quai and RedHeads, as well as from La Clarière.

It was lovely meeting Confrères we've known for decades. And very encouraging to see new faces.

When we at last got up from the table there were tours round the vineyard and explanations of all the contraptions in the winery. The Champagne process is anything but simple.

But it's wonderful that our own little country can at last produce English Quality Sparkling Wines that can be considered truly world class. Whoever would've thought?

Anyway, a good time was had and promises were made for another meet ... maybe at harvest time! Keep a look out here.
