Porta dos Cavaleiros Touriga Nacional Reserva 2005Gloriously rich, fruit-filled Reserva from Portugal's ancient Dão region
Great news for lovers of spicy, fruit-packed reds … we've just secured a small parcel of complex, mouthfilling Reserva from a highly acclaimed cellar in Portugal.
Rare and authentic … right down to the label! This wine is a real treat for anyone who appreciates wines with a sense of place and history. It comes from the ancient Dão region, south-east of Porto, and is made from the fruit of low-yielding, 30-year-old vines. The name Porta dos Cavaleiros refers to the gateway to Dão's ancient walled city of Viseu that was used for centuries by local knights. Then there's the label, made from cork (Portugal is the world's leading cork supplier) and an interesting point for the dining table.
Portuguese wine expert, Richard Mason sums up how good wines from this cellar are - "(Porta dos Cavaleiros) Reservas are still some of the best examples of red Dao" … make sure you snap some up while stocks remain!
Forest fruit aromas with hints of dried red fruit flavours, leather and a gamey richness. Great with casseroles or light game dishes.
