Description
Coteaux de Peyriac is a very small vin de pays that covers non-AOC wine from the Minervois region. This area is one of the most exciting parts of the Languedoc to buy from as, since it was granted appellation contrôlée status in 1985, great strides have been made in quality. This is reflected both in its AOC wines and its vins de pays. Decanter magazine wrote that the region was "home to its most dynamic, daring producers", while The Times described it as "home to lots of undiscovered gems."

This is a superb, one-off parcel of Cabernet made at the Lauran Cabaret cellar in Laure Minervois, one of the most well-respected wineries of the region.

Lauran Cabaret was in fact an overlord of the Haut Minervois in the rather savage days of the 13th century. He owned fortified castles in four strongholds within the region - Cabaret, Touregine, Fleur Espine and Quertinheux.

Winemaker at this excellent cellar is Thierry Tesseyre - a local who has had experience in Rioja, Italy, Alsace and Provence - and Jean-Claude Founeau, whose work has taken him to both Bordeaux and the Rhône.

They have made the wine purely from Cabernet Sauvignon - a grape that is not permitted within 'Minervois AOC' so the wine must take on the humble 'vin de pays' mantle. The vines are on average 25 years old, which accounts in part for the superb concentration.
