Château Carlmagnus is a tiny cru that's planted purely with Merlot. In 1998, master winemaker Arnaud Roux-Oulié bought the vineyard, and set about the task of bringing Carlmagnus to the forefront of the wines of Fronsac.
His vines are now an average of 50 years old, and produce exceptionally low yields of intensely concentrated fruit. After traditional fermentation in wooden vats, this wine was aged for a year in new oak barrels, then bottled without fining or filtration to preserve all the rich fruit character of the wine.
This smooth, elegant red has aromas of plums and damsons with spicy notes, and delivers a big velvety mouthful of supple fruit and hints of cedar-wood and vanilla. Enjoy with roast lamb, beef, venison, rich stews, weighty vegetarian dishes or farmhouse cheeses.
