Description
From a cellar that claims to be the first Carbon Neutral winery in Chile comes this delightfully refreshing Sauvignon. It lies in Chimbaronga in eastern Colchagua, one of Chile's top wine-growing areas and is itself regarded as one of the finest wineries in the country. It was created just in 1993 with the aim of producing modern wines for export and has won many awards, including six gold medals at the Challenge International du Vin at Blaye-Bourg 2002 and four trophies at the Citadelles du Vin in Bordeaux.

Its winemaker is the celebrated Adolfo Hurtado - four-time winner of the 'Winemaker of the Year' award, most recently in 2008, and father of five(!). At the 2006 award ceremony, the judges praised him: "We are distinguishing creativity, energy, the desire to try new things and enthusiasm for his trade, which permeates the wines." He believes passionately in environmentally friendly methods in the vineyard and much of the winery's vines are certified organic. Any live pests that do appear are set upon by the cellar's flock of geese that are penned in among the vines to gobble up the unwanted intruders!

Casa del Rio Verde is pure Sauvignon Blanc, handpicked from the Chimbaronga vineyards. The grapes have to be harvested at night to avoid the heat, then quickly transported to the cellar to retain maximum freshness. A cool fermentation in modern stainless steel vats and an early bottling ensures all that pure aroma and flavour is kept in.
