Romaeus Rosso 2014

Lazio IGT

Valentino’s Cirulli’s Roman vines, close to the Via Appia, are the only ones within the boundaries of the eternal city. Crafted from Merlot and Cabernet and aged for six months in French oak, this is the Lazio region’s equivalent of a Super Tuscan.

The Cirulli family have been winemakers since 1861 when Valentino’s Cirulli great grandfather purchased a plot of land in Umbria. After graduating from his university wine studies in the 1960s, Valentino went on to create a successful business, and today he sells his wines internationally. Romaeus Rosso is a modern Italian classic, inspired by the Super Tuscan concept (the introduction of Bordeaux varieties into the Tuscan blend). It also reminds us that only thanks to the Roman Empire did winemaking spread across Europe 2,000 years ago. Layers of black cherry, spice, cocoa and vanilla are supported by silken tannins. Superb with local favourites saltimbocca alla Romana (veal cutlet Roman style) or oven roasted lamb with garlicky potatoes.

"An impressive new addition to our Italian range from the very city of Rome! A Super Lazio!" Davy Zyw
