This luxurious Reserva is from a cellar recently acquired by Julián Murúa, the man behind our bestselling Rioja, Barón de Barbón. Many wineries are struggling in Spain's current economic climate, so Julián was able to acquire the cellar, along with some excellent wines already maturing in barrel, for a great price. He offered our Buyer, Helen McEvoy, first dibs on these wines, and she was so quick off the mark she got to the winery before his sister! Helen was particularly struck by this superb 2006 Reserva, a pure Tempranillo aged in cask for two years and left to rest for another three in bottle. Soft enough to drink on its own, it's also very tasty with classic Spanish dishes such as Seville roast duck, or Catalonian chicken casserole.
