Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha, Santa Rita is one of Chile's oldest wineries. It remained family owned until the 1970s, and since then has attracted a number of major investors. This has enabled the cellar to expand considerably, planting vineyards and establishing another estate in Argentina. The original property in Chile dates back to the start of the 19th century, to the Chilean War of Independence. It was here that the owner once harboured General Bernardo O'Higgins and other national heroes ('The Patriots') seeking respite from battle. We think this sumptuous special cuvée, aged eight months in barrel, is an apt tribute to them. This is perfect red for grand occasions, although priced so we can all enjoy it more often.
