Puglia is a treasure trove of rich tasting reds that "give you a lot of wine for your money" (Decanter) and offer "undreamed-of character and potential" (Hugh Johnson). Our source for this top of the range special is the fabulous Cantine Due Palme cellar which has been named 'Winery of the Year' for three years in succession by esteemed local wine guide Luca Maroni. Renowned winemaker Angelo Maci took Primitivo, the region's star grape, from bush vines up to 80 years old for added intensity, then added a splash of the equally dark and delicious Negroamaro. Ageing in luxurious French oak has augmented the complexity and finesse of this dense, full bodied red. Well suited to meaty pasta dishes or grilled lamb with caponata (aubergine stew).
