The year 2008 was the first in a trio of fabulous vintages for Bordeaux. It's the most classic of the three, yet, ironically, the least loved and, as a result, we secured a couple of prize vats that, blended together, make a perfect harmony. The first was pure Merlot from a special place in the Entre Deux Mers with the same limestone soils as Saint Emilion on the other side of the Dordogne - lending real finesse and intensity to the fruit. We combined this with a parcel of densely flavoured, declassified Médoc (Merlot and Cabernet this time), given a little gentle oak ageing.Delicate, not hefty, with complex cassis and?dark plum fruit, the wine is now showing some maturity. Open an hour before serving, and enjoy with roast beef or lamb.
