Châteauneuf-du-Pape falls into two broad categories - intensely flavoured traditional styles and lighter, modern incarnations. This is very much the former.
Parker loves Vatican's "powerful, rich, in-your-face style of wine" as much as we do but such eulogies mean we have to fight harder every year for UK exclusivity of this Châteauneuf gem. The 2006 is a blockbuster with hallmark layers of brambles, redcurrants, spice and tar. Superb value and incredibly popular.
