Description
In top years Bordeaux Supérieur "often puts more prestigious names to shame" (Decanter) - this ripe, succulent, family-estate claret is a case in point! 2005 Bordeaux vintage was exceptional, the best in living memory, and Bordeaux superieur wines from this vintage are increasingly difficult to find. We are particularly fond of Queyret Pouillac as it's very well made and displays excellent vintage and regional characteristics.
Queyret Pouillac is an impressive château, complete with pigeonnier, built in 1783. It is located in the heart of the Entre-Deux Mers, in the ancient commune of St Antoine du Queyret and is blessed with excellent chalky soils comparable to the best terroirs of St. Emilion. The vineyards are on sun-exposed slopes, on the modest hill of Pouillac (100 m) with the Queyret river flowing by at the bottom.
The owner, Mr Ludovic Leherle is passionate about his wine. To maximise quality he conducted a 'green harvest' (removing unripe bunches of grapes to reduce yields and concentrate flavours). He also picked early in the morning to maintain the freshness of the grapes.
Brick red with red currant and blackberry aromas. Rich, smooth textured wine with plumy Merlot fruit.
