Description This is a crisp, lively Sauvignon Blanc from the Languedoc, not the first place you'd think of looking for this sprightly style of wine. Most of the Languedoc is rather warm, but when the vines are grown on the higher slopes and the fruit is picked early when still full of vibrant acidity, this region can produce wines to rival those of the Kiwis.
Wilson's Sauvignon is named after the winemaker who created the first release of this wine - Flying Winemaker Brian Wilson - and made it such a huge, zippy-fresh success. Mark Hoddy was our man in situ for the 2006. He is also a roving winemaker, watching over vats for us in Bordeaux, but also around both the Languedoc and Roussillon.
In fact, at the tender age of just 25, he has his own 11-hectare estate, Domaine de la Pertuisane, in the upper Agly Valley of the Roussillon ... next door to that of Jean-Luc Thunevin, who introduced the term 'garage' wines, and makes some of the most exclusive wines in Bordeaux - the tiny-production Chateau Valandraud and also Chateau Ausone. But, as Mark likes to point out, he got to the Roussillon first!
The fruit for this crisp white is from Bernard Montariol and Pierre Degroote's Domaine Lalande in the Languedoc. Mark selected the parcel of Sauvignon grapes and supervised all its vinification, bottling the wine early, to retain maximum freshness.
