Description Italy's 'Winery of the Year' three times in a row, the Farnese cellar is one of the finest in Abruzzo. It was founded by Camillo De Iulius and named after a 14th century family who fell in the love with the area, built some of Rome's finest palaces and also made wine there.
We have worked with Farnese for over 10 years now and our close relationship gives us exclusivity to the cellar's highly sought-after wines. Their popularity is perhaps not surprising as they do make some of the region's best, as recognised by a long list of awards and glowing reviews from Robert Parker, Decanter, Wine Spectator, Gambero Rosso, Vinitaly, International Wine Challenge and the Luca Maroni Wine Guide. The sister white wine to this red has in the past been 'White Wine of the Year' at the prestigious International WINE Challenge, as well as being named 'Best Buy' by Wine Spectator, scooping 86 points. In November 2004, the Farnese cellar won a Trophy for 'Best Italian Red' & another for 'Best Italian White'.
The highly regarded Filippo Baccalaro heads up the winemaking team of six at the cellar, which is situated in the heart of the prestigious DOCG Colline Teramane production area. Sangiovese is the grape of Tuscany and its main wine, Chianti. This wine, however, is made from a parcel sourced from Puglia, right to the south, where the grape takes on richer, weightier tones than its northern equivalent.
