Vina Labarta is the work of an award wining Rioja cellar. It is owned by the Vivanco family who have been making wine now for almost a century. Their recently modernised bodega, with its impressive 10,000 barrel cellar, is located in the village of Alberite, 12 kilometres from Logroño (the capital of La Rioja), in the heart of wine production in Rioja and neighbouring famous name bodegas Muga and Cune.

Viña Labarta is named after an old vineyard in the Iregua Valley that lies at the foot of the Monte Clavijo mountain, overlooked by castle ruins. The wine is made purely from grapes handpicked from the highest part of the region, in the Rioja Alta. At 440 metres, the fruit only ripens slowly and so retains excellent aroma, acidity and gains great depth of flavour.

The wine is pure Tempranillo - a thick-skinned variety that produces only light colour in a wine, but also an aromatic, Summer berry fruit bouquet and gentle, soft, strawberry flavour, still with the 'stuffing' to age. In this wine, six months' ageing in American oak barrels has increased complexity. Winemaker at the bodega is the experienced Paloma Redonda, who has been working at the cellar since 2002 and in the Rioja region for 21 years.
