Description
Los Rosales is a rich, claret-style red with lots of delicious ripe fruit over a core of firm, rounded tannins. It's made purely from Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape that reigns supreme in the vineyards of the Médoc and makes some of the most expensive wines in the world.

This wine comes from the Rapel Valley, which lies south of Santiago and the Maipo Valley in Chile's Central Valley and contains one quarter of all the country's vineyards. It is divided into two distinct areas - the Cachapoal Valley to the north and slightly further inland, and Colchagua, marginally further west, which benefits from cooling coastal breezes from the Pacific.

The wine is the creation of the excellent Viña La Rosa, a winery founded in 1824 and one of the oldest in Chile. It was started by Don Gregorio Ossa at the behest of his father, a wealthy miner. At the time, establishing an estate and planting a vineyard was all the rage among the nouveau riche. Don Gregorio travelled to France and brought back vine cuttings which he duly planted. Today, the estate is in the hands of the sixth generation and, with 700 hectares of vines, can afford the luxury of using only estate-grown fruit.

The grapes for Los Rosales come from a single vineyard within Cornellana, known for its sloping vineyards within a narrow, hidden valley. At the centre of this vineyard lies an old chapel built by Trinidad, the mother of the founder of the winery, hence the name of this wine.
