Description
For sheer exuberance, Aussie Shiraz is hard to beat. Penny Booth of Decanter says "In so many ways, Shiraz reflects the Australian character - bold, vigorous, confident and upfront. These wines should be celebrated as the embodiment of the Australian Spirit."

This full-fruit red is from Bob Berton, a gentle giant who, alongside his love of Harley Davidson motorcycles, has a passion for winemaking. Over the years, he has produced some of our most enduringly popular reds. Then, in 2006, he decided to go solo and bought a winery in Riverina, New South Wales. He brought in two young winemakers he'd enjoyed working with before - Belinda Moradin and James Ceccatto - and hasn't looked back since.

Though vintages in Australia tend to be fairly consistent (constant sunshine is pretty much a given in the inland regions) 2007 was an exception. Thanks to an even drier Summer than usual, yields were down considerably - the lowest in recent years in fact - but the good news was that quality was way up. Bob wanted to take full advantage of the superb fruit available, so he sought out grapes from the oldest vines in the region. Thanks to their deep root structures, these vines can survive on minimal rainfall, producing concentrated fruit.

Bob fermented the grapes in his new winery, ageing a portion in oak to add subtle notes of vanilla to the rich, spicy bramble fruit flavours.
