Description
This silky smooth red is from Andrew McPherson, a veteran of the Aussie wine industry whose passion for quality shines through in his wines. His father Jock was a pioneering figure who helped develop large parts of the Hunter Valley back in the 1970s, and Andrew learnt 'heaps' from him at an early age. However, rather than simply joining the family firm, Andrew set out on his own designing and managing the building of new wineries around the world - in the process becoming an expert in the cool fermentation methods used in white wine-making. While he enjoys the technical side of white wine production, however, he says his real love is producing reds, as there is more art and mystique involved.

In 1990 Andrew returned to his roots, making wine his core business. He built a high-tech winery at Nagambie, near the Goulburn Valley in Victoria, and is making a superb range of wines.

Sinclair Estate is made purely from Merlot, one of the world's best-loved red grapes thanks to the lush fruit and gorgeously supple texture of its wines. In line with his philosophy, that "the best wine is the wine you like", Andrew made the wine in an unashamedly upfront fruity and drinkable style, with subtle use of oak ageing to add notes of cedar and spice.
