Description
As good as it gets ? Baron de Barbon has been rated the UK's best Rioja buy at the world's biggest wine show. This 2005 sees quality at an all time high, with all the hallmark, velvety, toasty flavours that have made it such a hit. This is what true Rioja is all about ? up there with the best" say The Sunday Express
2005 was officially an "excellent" vintage, even outscoring the 5-Star 2004, with, as one winemaker put it "the best levels of colour and flavour in a decade." Barbon's made from noble Tempranillo grown in the old vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, rare in such modestly priced wine, and key to its trophy-winning quality.
In 2005, these grapes yielded rich strawberry and vanilla flavours - while ageing in expensive oak added deliciously complex layers and an incredible silky-smooth finish. Its sensational richness must also be credited to the experience and passion for quality of father-and-son winemakers, Julian and Javier Muriel.
"Violet with a blueish tinge. Fruit-filled aromas with a lovely toasty edge. Silky-smooth with generous red berry and vanilla flavours, hints of spice and a deliciously rounded, oaky finish. Enjoy with roast lamb, meaty tapas dishes or fine smoked Spanish ham."
