Description
Established in 1874, Tarapaca is one of Chile's oldest and most prestigious estates. The grand country house at its heart is set among 400 acres of vines in a giant horseshoe shape bordered by towering mountains and a fast-flowing river. With a grandeur to rival leading Medoc chateaux, the homestead is impeccably decorated with antiques and works of art. The cellars too set a benchmark for the region with a newly completed, temperature-controlled, underground barrel hall as the latest, no-expense-spared innovation.
Chilean Sauvignon Blanc has impressed critics for some years now. It's seen to occupy the 'middle ground' between hugely aromatic Kiwi Sauvignons and the more elegant and restrained Loire Sauvignons like Sancerre. Tarapaca Sauvignon is made by Cristian Molina whose wonderfully impressive wines have caught the attention of American critic extraordinaire, Robert Parker. High in the Andes foothills, the Sauvignon grapes are picked by hand and rigorously sorted to ensure only the healthiest fruit makes it to the winery. A cool fermentation in modern stainless steel vats and an early bottling ensures all that pure aroma and flavour is kept in.
