Description
If you love dense, rich and ripely fruity Cabernets with just a little backbone, then crack open a bottle of Fundo Los Naranjos from South America. Chile first launched itself onto the world market with its Bordeaux style reds and proved itself more than capable of some very tasty wines. It has made much progress since those early days in the 1980s and now has a formidable reputation for both outstanding quality and value.

Master of Wine Jancis Robinson wrote: "Chile's strongest suit is the quality and vivacity of her Cabernet Sauvignon, all bursting with vibrant life and fruit, the sort of wines that should send a tremor down many a spine in Bordeaux," while Joe Wadsack in The Sunday Express put it: "Chile is producing superb claret-like reds."

This is a rich and well-balanced red from the formidable Adolfo Hurtado who, although only 36, has been awarded 'Winemaker of the Year' four times now. He runs the show at a winery in the Colchagua Valley, an environmentally aware estate that insists all its workers use a bicycle to get to and from work and round the vineyards, and uses penned-in geese to gobble up unwanted insects. In fact, it has declared itself Chile's first Carbon Neutral winery.
