Description
Luis Felipe Edwards is a family-owned winery located in Nancagua, 150km south of Santiago in the highly favoured Colchagua Valley of Rapel. The first Edwards to arrive in Chile was a London-born doctor who left his ship and settled in La Serena at the beginning of the 19th century, some time before the War of Independence in 1810.
The winery's history goes back a little over two decades. It was Edwards' grandson who first became a farmer and winegrower in the south of Chile and, in turn, his grandson's nephew, Luis Felipe Edwards, who in 1976 rescued old vineyards from the San Jose de Puquillay Estate near Nancagua. In the following years, Luis Felipe restored the estate, planting new varieties and eventually, in 1994, setting up a winery with the latest technology for making wines.
The family may be very modern in their wine production methods, but their lifestyle is much more traditional; they still meet everyday in the drawing room for afternoon tea! They live in a beautiful, old colonial house on the property, furnished with many chandeliers, and surrounded by magnificent gardens designed by Luis Felipe Edwards's wife.
